Indiana Education Technology Council:

An Indiana Digital-Age Learning Plan

The newly-appointed members of the Education Technology Council have been developing a K-12 digital-age learning plan for the state of Indiana. The intent of that plan is to prepare our K-12 students to thrive in a global, high tech society The plan would position technology use in three critical ways: as a vehicle for differentiated instruction that leads to higher test scores; as a vehicle to more and better opportunities to participate in true 21st Century learning environments; as an administrative tool for increased efficiency and effectiveness through data driven decision-making.

The plan focuses on investments in educators and capacity building for school corporations such that each school might have greater opportunities to achieve its local visions for learning by using technology. The plan will also serve as a policy roadmap for allocation of state resources that support and enable schools and districts to use technology effectively.

As part of the process, the Council has engaged Cheryl Lemke of the Metiri Group to facilitate its efforts. Cheryl also has tremendous background with what other states are doing, and first-hand knowledge of research efforts to better understand what is working and why.

The Council’s work will be used to guide funding requests in the 2007 biennial budget.
